Angels, Pain, Wrath

Been pretty quiet around here lately. I think we need to recruit some fresh meat. Anyway, here's my semiregular offering.

you dont understand this i think you never did
silently i search for a reason to exist
ive found a way to feel you i feel so fucking old
youre burning up inside me i feel so fucking cold
you stare at me so silent you stare at me so cold
i think you stare right through me that stare has made me old
ive found a way to feel you i feel so fucking old
youre burning up inside me i feel so fucking cold
i sink into this darkness i sink into this cold
this emptiness is calling ive nothing left to lose
ive found a way to kill you i feel so fucking cold
youre burning up inside me i feel so fucking old
you are clutched tight in my fingers
you caress my skin so light
you are welling up inside me
              you have finally freed yourself
you are flowing cross my pale skin
you are running down my arm
you are salty as i taste you
i have finally made you warm
                  take this as an offering
                  take this as a sign
                  take this as an offering
how much can you take from
how much can you take from
                  take this as an offering
                  take this as a sign
                  take this as an offering
how much can you take from
how much can you take from me

There's a Certain Slant of Light
[by Emily Dickinson]

There's a certain slant of light,
On winter afternoons
That oppresses, like the weight
Of cathedral tunes.

Heavenly hurt it gives us;
We can find no scar,
But internal difference
Where the meanings, are.

None may teach it anything,
'T is the seal, despair, --
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the air.

When it comes, the landscape listens,
Shadows hold their breath;
When it goes, 't is like the distance
On the look of death.

Black Wings
[by Tom Waits]

Take an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,
Just like they say in the Bible.
Never leave a trace or forget a face
Of any man at the table, any man at the table.

When the moon is a cold chiseled dagger,
And it's sharp enough to draw blood from a stone,
He rides through your dreams on a coach and horses,
And the fence posts in the moonlight look like bones.

Well, they've stopped trying to hold him with mortar, stone and chain.
He broke out of every prison.
When the boots mount the staircase, the door is flung back open,
He's not there, for he has risen.

Some say he once killed a man with a guitar string.
He's been seen at the table with kings.
Well he once saved a baby from drowning.
There are those that say beneath his coat there are wings.

He can turn himself into a stranger.
Well they broke a lot of canes on his hide.
He was born away in a cornfield.
A fever beats in his head like a drum inside.

Some say they fear him, others admire him,
    Because he steals his promise.
    One look in his eye
    And everyone denies
    Ever having met him.

I Find No Peace
[by Sir Thomas Wyatt]

I find no peace, and all my war is done.
I fear and hope. I burn and freeze like ice.
I fly above the wind, yet can I not arise;
And nought I have, and all the world I season.
That loseth nor locketh holdeth me in prison
And holdeth me not--yet can I scape no wise--
Nor letteth me live nor die at my device,
And yet of death it giveth me occasion.
Without eyen I see, and without tongue I plain.
I desire to perish, and yet I ask health.
I love another, and thus I hate myself.
I feed me in sorrow and laugh in all my pain;
Likewise displeaseth me both life and death,
And my delight is causer of this strife.

Wild
[by Poe]

I go wild 'cause you break me open,
Wild 'cause you left me here,
I go wild 'cause your promises are broken,
Wild because the chips are down,
Wild because there isn't anybody else around,
Wild when the waves start to break,
And God knows they're breaking in me now.

I go wild because it doesn't make sense
For me to cry out in my own defense.
Wild because I would do anything
To tear you off your precious fence.

Tell me what you've come for,
Moving like a hunter through my back door,
Leaving the perfume of all you adore,
To die nameless on my floor.

Well, we both know you don't play fair,
I guess you really think that you get me there.
Let's be honest, perhaps this little ride
Is too much for even you to bear.

Tell me what you've come for.
What is it you adore, won't you tell me?
What would you cry for, swallow your pride for?
What would you go wild for?

So this is what it's like living in limbo:
First I'm high then I'm solo.

You've got some nerve to come back here.
You're not the only one who can smell fear.

You've got a lot of nerve to come back here.
Speak up my darling -- I have been waiting.

I go wild 'cause you break me open,
Wild 'cause you left me here,
I go wild 'cause your promises are broken,
Wild -- don't you get it dear?
You're not the only one who runs on instincts,
No, I got instincts of my own.

You've got a lot of nerve to come back.
Plan your attack and I am still waiting.
                (Did you want something?)
You wrote the rules to try and contain me,
You broke 'em, now you have untamed me.
(And I'm wild, I go wild.)
